Heligan was the seat of the Tremayne family for over 400 years and the gardens were magnificent.
When the First World War broke out, the men who worked in these wonderful gardens left for the war. The gardens were left untended and Nature soon took over. The Gardens became an impenetrable jungle of brambles and ivy.
The Gardens at Heligan Hall were rediscovered in 1990 after violent storms had wreaked damage to the surrounding woods. The mammoth task of restoring the gardens began and it is now as exciting and impressive as in its heyday.
